Back to the 1920s
Did you know the term aromatherapy goes all the way back to the 1920s?
It happened when French cosmetic chemist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse discovered the different healing properties of essential oils.
It all happened when he had sustained severe burns to his hand from a laboratory explosion. He quickly applied some undiluted lavender.
Without a Scar
Thanks to the lavender his burn healed without a scar. How Amazing that would been to be there to witness this! Sorry, I get excited when it comes to essential oils. I just love all natural and holistic health.
Antiseptic and Pain Relievers
He also, discovered that essential oils we’re great antiseptic and pain relievers. If it wasn’t for Mr. Gattefosse we may not have known essential as we do today.
Two Italian Doctors
During this time two Italian doctors discovered therapeutic effects from smelling essential oils.
Holistic Use Developed
In 1950 Austrian Marguerite Maury further developed holistic use of essential oils by combining essential oils with massage.
Thought To Be True Founders
Egyptians are thought to be the true founders of aromatherapy. The Egyptians extracted oils from flower petals. They used the oils in perfumes and incense.
Later the Greeks started the use of the oils in baths.
The Romans then used the oils in healing salve and in massages.
The Chinese believed essential oils had magical powers to help them have a better life.
Now, you know what aromatherapy is and how it came about. I hope you found this information valuable.
